there both similar but ps3 has the bluray, they seem to not malfunction as much as the 360, and you dont have to pay for your subscription on the network. you should also look at what games are on each system Ps3 has many games that arent available on the 360 such as Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 2 and 3, InFamous, Resistance etc
I purchased the new xbox 360 a couple months back for my son from a guy who won it. the controller is a bit bigger. Next month they are releasing Kinect for the new Xbox 360. Kinect is like the wii except NO REMOTES look at the link below. They can't Mod it yet, but I think they will soon. PS3 can't be Modded. The New Xbox 360 is the best bet IMO..

ps3 also released the playstation move its simular to wii but much better, Gran Turismo 5 is also coming out in less than 2 weeks
