    Default cardio after training

I know it's not the best time to do it but my question is, should I hit up a protein shake after training then hit the cardio or just wait until I get home and eat some real food?

If dropping fat is your goal then post workout is one of the best times to do cardio because you are in a fasted state. Again if fat loss is your goal do cardio then have a protein shake.

I still think doing fasted while trying to gain is fine. This allows you to burn some fat while still getting the metabolic improvements from cardio and putting on muscle.

Running is by far the WORST form of cardio one can do. Not only does in increase cortisol and burn muscle tissue it cause a host of other health problems. There are two types of cardio that are optimum and that is low intensity walking and high intensity such as sled pushing/pulling, hill sprints etc

Agree with Praetorian... post workout is one of the best times for cardio due to the increased fat mobilization.

As for cardio in the offseason... I personally don't recommend low intensity steady state as I think it works to slow down your BMR when in the offseason you should be trying to build that up so I'd suggest going with HIIT for sure if you're trying to stay leaner while growing
