Its wild how behind BC is in bbuilding. Jeremy, Ram, Paulo and Richy Chan smoke the competition out here at the provincial level and they are completely smoked at nationals. If it wasn't for dawn bc bodybuilding would be one of the worst provinces represented. What do you guys attest to this?

I've talked to some competitors who say there are less bbuilders here bc of cost of living ...etc, others who say that other povinces bbuilders are sponsored by companies and local mom/pop butchers...etc.
Mmaybe we just aren't working hard enough?

^ could be just a culture thing. I am sure there are people in BC who if they put their heart and soul into BB they would come out and be the next canadian champ. However those people might be just taking it ieasy enjoying life, doing other sports, etc. They might have all the genetics in the world for BB, but choose something else. Lot's of people can get good at BB with the proper ethic. The way to get really good athletes from a single region or province is to have EVERYONE get into it. That way you end up seeing the freaks with genetics emerge. If they don't try, you never know.

Essentially its just a numbers game. Not the number of people in the province, but the number of people who really get involved in the sport. lately it seems everyone and their dog around here want to get into the sport. because of this, you'll likely start seeing an increase in the top guys from out east. And think, we are a very small province. but its all anyone does! fish for lobster, and go to the gym!

it is a cultural thing absolutely. no one here (vancouver) is interested in being a big freak it just isnt desirable by the west coast standards. lululemon and yoga dominate with skinny jeans and such. im no freak by bbing standards but at 5'9 and 210 (lean) people stare at me and make all sorts of remarks like they have never seen a muscled guy ever in real life. it is also easier to get involved with outdoors etc when it isnt -20 and snowing. women out here also want to have nothing to do with big dudes so guys arent training for that reason at all which can be a driving force behind guys getting into the gym to start with at a young age. and yes, cost of living is insane so not as many guys willing to work some type of average job that allows them train and eat. theyd be riding the bus to the gym if they lived here but back east can live a much more comfortable life style
