CBBF, OPA and Classic Bodybuilding Question??

Hey guys,

As some of you may have read in other threads I compete in Classic Bodybuilding.

I am going to be leaving the country at the end of the year so I wanted to set my goal for doing nationals in Laval Quebec in October for Classic Tall Division before I left.

I have inquired to some of the promotors reagrding classic bodybuilding at their shows and I have come to the conclusion that Sundbury June 11th is going to have a Classic Bodybuilding Division and the nationals in Laval Quebec will have that division just like last year.

There is however NO National Qualifier as the pro show is not going to have a classic division. What is the point of having classic at the regional level and national level but not the provincial level? The OPA dropped the ball on this one.

Does anyone from Quebec know if there is a national qualifier with the classic division that I could do and if so where???

If not, I guess there is not much I can do.

I would do the tested events (not an issue) but I am out of the country for the shows they are having in May and also the one JUly 8th. And I don't want to wait to compete next April at the Natural Nationals.

Open class athletes can make the switch to classic or do both if they qualify in open bodybuilding. Anyway hope you figure it out wouldn't mind having more guys in my class next year.

If you are competing in the classic then you'ld likely get massacred in the open. Just because you can doesn't always mean you should.

kind of a shame, because it means you'll have to qualify in the open class in order to go to nationals for the classic class. as tiramisu pointed out, it is tough for a classic guy to do well at nationals...but the issue you'll have is not there, but qualifying in the open. Will you get destroyed in the open at provincials? well, that depends on what class your in....a classic guy stands a chance to place top 3 in the lighter weight classes, but light heavy and up could be really hard.

the natural provincials is in september, and they will probably have classic - but they would say you cant qualify there. I would bring it up and say its the only provincial event that even has the classic division, and just maybe they will make the exception - OR they will add classic to provincials in june.

As I've said before, classic should be reserved for the tested nationals - as the reason it was brought into it was because of worlds, which only the world qualifier gets you to. I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of classic at non-tested. maybe not this year, but probably will happen.

Well that isn't necessarily the truth. Those that are gifted with large muscle belly's and who hold weight better than others stand a chance in open. I'm sure you've come across the guy who looks 220 when he's only 180.

Now i'm not gifted by any means but i was still able to win the Ontario Provincials in the Open class. (Ontario i believe is the most difficult province to win)

Now with my weight i can still gain 17 pounds of stageweight over last year and still stay a classic bodybuilder and be a top end middleweight.

Just saying that not all classic guys are bodybuilder pushovers.

Like Rodney Dangerfield says "I get no respect" LOL;)

at 5'10, one can be 185. Now, someone may not be the winner at nationals, but can crack the top5 or top3 depending on the year. But it assumes you carry your weight really well, and is as ripped as ripped can be and posing is flawless. I know a couple winners of middle in previous years at 5'8 and only about 182-184. But again, that was an easier year. Other years, that class is ridiculous, and winners from previous years come 6th-7th.

Although, at 6 feet, you can be 200 at most...and someone 6 feet tall is going to have a tough time at the bottom end of the heavyweight...or as a top end light heavy weight. Especially given he's natural.

I agree it depends on the year. a 200lbs heavy is going to have trouble placing for sure.

I am not sure if I would be able to hold my own in your class even if I come it at the top of the light heavies. I will see how I look when I start cutting I guess.

I looked at the pictures from last year and I have better conditioning but I would be out muscled that's for certain. They have dense thick muscle and well I am pretty lanky.

I am afraid that top 3 is not going to happen for me in the open class. I would love to compete against the big boys but there muscle mass surpasses mine by quite a lot.

I asked the northern rep for the OPA and he said that no matter what they will not let you cross back and forth.

Hahaha love the quote. With me I can be 213 for classic but only 198 for light heavies. There is no way I could compete in the heavies in open. That would definately be the end of me for sure.

I hear you Steve. I think I am just going to do the natural (tested stream) and see how I compete in the light heavies and classic and go from there. If I do well there maybe by next year I could compete in the open light heavies.

To add to this discussion, classic bodybuilding is going to be a thing of the past next year. With the addition of the qualifiers for naturals the OPA does not think they are going to have classic anymore and if they do it will be up to the promoter of the event to have it but it will not qualify you for anything it would be just for fun I suppose.

exactly what I thought...classic is a silly invention IMO
