Olympic lifters have big front squats because of the exercises they perform when they train which are much different from powerlifters.

I've used a lot of his training methods simply because he focused mostly on hypertrophy.
Wow can't believe I haven't heard of this guy, I will do some research on him training methods... Harsh for the chest exercises though. Wonder what he had against chest?

OK so Coleman got another 50 pounds, how deep lol?Its just a merry go round. Many people have been of the opinion that benching is a lousy way to build the chest. How man guys wrecked their shoulders benching heavy?Legions. While we are at it,Marc Gagne, the guy that owns Gagne Fitness, trained with Arnold and Franco around 83.Franco was the powerlifter,Arnold definitely NOT.I bet it was Westside that started that story.Marc competed at 265,never uses heavy weights and he's still huge at 53.

Benching is lousy for some but necessary for me , and I never use more than 315 for reps. Dumbell presses do nothing for me . When I bench , and 275 reps seems to be the best weight on incline and flat , I get virtually no pump in my shoulders. Maybe if I was moving 365 or more then I'd have them. But I have built a good chest on 2 sets of flat , two of incline , 2 flyes and 2 crossovers or dips. Some guys get sweet **** all from using barbells but I love them. I think when you have a naturally ectomorphic body type you have to use heavy weights to build size. If you already have a build suited to growth then I think you can and should go as light as you can if you plan to train injury free into your 60s and 70s. Pros have to lift heavy at some point. No pro ever built a great body without lifting heavy .

He had nothing against chest. It was the approach he disagreed with.

I totally agree with you on the last part there Hosehead... It's funny, I was just thinking about this today. got a nice critique from an older lifter today at the gym who said that my shoulders were really developed and he asked what I did for them. I told them what Delt King and Prae (and even you might have helped me on Hosehead) told me a few months ago when I asked. I started with light lateral raises and really got the feel that activated the muscle the most for me (pinkies up e.t.c.). After I got good at that, started upping the weight to heavy for me 40 lb dumbbells for some reps and from there every single set I did I did an insane drop set all the way to failure. I end up barely being able to lift 10 lbs. This got me thinking that all my best bodyparts are the ones that I go to failure on the most and totally destroy them... Shoulders, back, legs. Thinking I'm gonna try failure training this time with my chest. I've tried and tried to bump up my bench and honestly it's not worth doing accessory movements like floor press just to help get me over a 225 lb bench.. that's just pathetic in my opinion. Gonna try and blast my chest for a month and see how it goes. Hopefully my chest will finally grow to its potential. Thanks again Hosehead for advising that I warmup with chest flyes. I still do that today and I get a lot of blood in the muscle and it helps me connect better with it.

Any exercise done incorrectly will lead to injury...the bench press being the most popular will always lead the list especially because he majority of people doing it have no idea what they are doing.

Blame the technique not the exercise.

Plenty of experienced bb'ers with good coaching have still been injured, although powerlifting seems to claim more.
